I am very pleased to inform you all that the PWA has managed to raise enough funds to complete the purchase of our community centre at 50 Darvills Lane, Chalvey, Slough, for £622,700 on 10th May 2019.
This was a very long process, as when we took over we were told that the asking price was £330,000 for a 99 year leasehold, but the Cabinet disagreed due to a lack of proof of funding, and so the asking price increased to over £800,000 for a freehold.
After more than 2 years of discussions, negotiations and hard work by our current PWA team, we finally managed to agree on the price being £622,700 freehold with no restrictions on the building.
This was raised with £190,000 of public donations, and £440,000 was loaned by some businessmen originally from Slough. We have an existing post with a list of donations here and will be updating this to thank all our well wishers. We would also like to thank the significant contributions of the following people:
Loans
Abdul Sattar (Vice President of the PWA) £200,000
Ashiq Ali (Chalvey Supermarket) £100,000
Abdul Rauf Ajram (Stoke Poges) £50,000
Khurram Saba (Saba B&B) £50,000
Mohammed Shabbir Raja (President of the PWA) £10,000
Mohammed Khurshid (General Secretary of the PWA) £10,000
Atiq Sandhu (Ambala Sweet Centre) £10,000
Majid Butt £10,000
As president I am very humbled and would like to personally thank my team and these individuals who had the faith in me to complete this process.
We are excited about the future and have many plans to update the building and to reach out to and help our community. We welcome any suggestions you have, and and any volunteers who can help us achieve these goals.
Many thanks,
Mohammed Shabbir Raja
President of the PWA
